Cosmetics FAQ

Welcome to the Cosmetics FAQ! If you’re looking for a quick overview of what cosmetics are and how they work, head here. Once you know the basics, this page covers some of the details and questions we hear most often.

How can I access cosmetics?
If you’re not in a game, you can access cosmetics by clicking the Cosmetics button on the top right of your dashboard.

Can students earn cosmetics?
Yes, they can! To earn & use cosmetics, students will need an account. They can create their own account if age 13+ (or 16+ if outside the US). Alternatively, you can use our classes feature, which allows students of all ages to create an account with your permission. Classes have the added benefit of ensuring students don’t use naughty names.

Can cosmetics be purchased with real money?
No, cosmetics cannot be purchased with real money. Cosmetics are purchased with GimBucks, which are earned through learning and in-game progression.

As the teacher, am I able to give students GimBucks?
Nope, GimBucks can only be earned by leveling up.

Won’t students be playing around with cosmetics instead of learning?
Cosmetics are only available to select & purchase while you’re in the game lobby & when the game ends. During a game, cosmetics are unavailable, so students won’t be able to change their Gim or purchase new ones during that time.

Why isn’t XP granted for non-2D game modes like Classic & Trust No One?
While we’d like to grant XP for non-2D game modes, there currently are some technical challenges preventing us from making it happen. Additionally, cosmetics are only used in 2D game modes, so we’ve decided to initially keep everything related to earning & using cosmetics inside the 2D world for now.

Does this also mean students won’t earn XP for completing assignments?
Yes, that is the case currently as assignments are a non-2D game mode. In the future, we would love to open up assignments to our 2D game modes. When that happens, students will be able to earn XP by completing assignments.

What are the weekly limits?
You can earn up to 15,000 XP per week. To level up, you need 1,000 XP, so, you can level up 15 times in a week.
